Accessible websites

What is web accessibility?

Web accessibility is a global initiative to ensure that all internet users have access to the web. Europe and the UK have implemented laws to ensure that internet users are not disadvantaged by physical or learning disability. Many UK websites are not W3C compliant and are breaking these laws.

"The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect." Tim Berners-Lee

Why should we have an accessible website?

Are you reaching the maximum number of potential customers?  Is your website accessible to all internet users or are some groups forced to find your competitor whose website is more customer friendly? Simple concepts such as having enlargeable text and text descriptions of pictures will enable your site to more effectively reach everybody.

Web accessible sites are also more easily read by search engines and will therefore improve your ranking. Search engines cannot read flash or pictures – they need help. Web accessible sites do this as they offer text alternatives to images and graphics.

If search engines and all visitor groups can read your website you will receive more visitors and they will be more likely to remain on your site and convert to become a customer.

WSI offers services to assess your present website and develop W3C-compliant websites.
